I didn’t do much in the guest bedroom by the way of Christmas decorating. I just added a pillow and some Christmas flowers and greenery.

The guest room is also where I blog most of the time. However when we have guests, I remove my laptop and we put the desk chair in the closet and add a little flat screen TV to the desk for our guests to watch. We also bought a new linen tufted headboard for this room. Though we loved the sleigh bed (we have had it since 2002) we need more space in this room and the sleigh bed takes up a lot of room. Once we put together the new headboard, we can start adding art to the room.
See the new window treatment in the photo above? We had custom woven roller shades made for all of our windows. They provide privacy when down, but they almost disappear when up. I will still be adding decorative curtain panels to all of the windows to help warm up the rooms.
We had guests 2 weeks after moving in and we needed a quick fix for window treatments for this room. So we went to Lowe’s and bought stock bamboo roman shades. See them in the picture below.

We had originally thought we would use custom roman shades through out the house. But after installing the ones in the guest room, we realized that they blocked some of our beautiful views. They couldn’t be pulled up to the top of the window.
We like the woven roller shades so much better. I will be making the curtain panels after the first of the year.
Hope you are all enjoying this last week countdown to Christmas!

Thinking about your choices…I’ll be sharing them with my daughter who finally moves into her new home this Friday.
A beautiful room. I love the simplicity of it. I have enjoyed your entire building process. It was fun to watch. Merry Christmas.
I love the room. I have to make me a quilt like that.
You don’t need much with that beautiful red check quilt and the toile. It looks beautiful, and welcoming!
I love that cute pillow and the red and white blanket. I should have bought one! heehee! This room is a serene shade of blue! Holiday hugs, Diane
The room is fresh and beautiful, Penny. What color are the walls?
Merry Christmas friend.
I would love to stay in your beautiful guest room. The shades look like the perfect solution. It sure is crunch time now: I just finished my cards and am JUST about done with shopping. I have everything I have bought wrapped at least:) Wishing you the very merriest of Christmases this first year in your new home!
Your guest room is so pretty. Love the bed and also the bedding. How nice that you can switch out your lap top for a TV for your guests. So nice and accommodating. Have a great rest of this week. Merry Christmas.
Hugs,
Kris
Such an inviting room, I love that it’s dual purposed!
I have always loved your red/check/toile guest bedroom. Today I am making tue trip to IKEA to buy a day bed that pulls out to queen size. It just doesn’t make sense in this little cottage to have valuable space taken up 365 days a year by a normal bed. I am looking forward to decorating my new office/den and will be looking to you for inspiration.
Lovely guest room. The shades are pretty and do offer privacy. Love the shade of blue on the walls.
Enjoy this most special Christmas, your first in your new home!
Looking good:)
Your guest room is the perfect size, in spite of the fact the sleigh bed isn’t to your liking. Our guest room is small and we are currently deciding what to put in there and are leaning toward a sleeper sofa. Found a company that doesn’t have the bar underneath and a good foam mattress.
We will most likely do something similar with our windows. Adding panels is a good solution especially since you can sew!
Love the toile. Merry Christmas
Cindy
Your guest room is so inviting. I’ve always loved that quilt! We are in Central Oregon for a few days in a vacaction home with our son, daughter-in-law, four of our grandkids and our daughter-in-law’s parents. It’s supposed to snow today and tomorrow. Have a wonderful Christmas, dear friend.

Beautiful, Penny. I love bamboo blinds, I have them in my living room, and I love the light airy feel.
